EDUCATION PROJECT
The training is based on the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary study and experience of all the languages of the contemporary performing arts.
The curriculum, even if centred around the choreutic arts – meant as the expression of body and movement in its different forms – builds on the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary study and experience of all languages of the contemporary performing arts and on the dynamic connection between education an research. It will be nourished by the on-going dialogue between the practical sessions, that constitute most of the work, and the theoretical reflections. Theory is conveyed through and as part of the practical activities, led by the experienced academics both from the fields of Arts and Performing Languages, and Philosophy and sciences with their own respective investigations on the body, on presence, on movement.
Thus, the practical activities will initially be mostly choreutic, and will then expand to the drama and musical disciplines, to their specific languages and the particular forms of hybridization among them, still keeping into consideration their relation with presence, with the body.
This responds to the vision of the performing arts and its interpreters approaching the concept of scenic act as an expressive unity, with the body and its presence being the main instrument, beyond the specific language that initiated it or the role that has been assigned to the body.
The group of learners, initially working all together, subsequently will be divided to allow each student to pursue their own vocation depending on individual aptitudes. The programme includes vertical, horizontal and shared transmission, the fields of study and research: tutoring begins from a more strictly educational and common ground, to then move progressively towards training within specific sectors (creation, improvisation, repertoire, pedagogy), to research projects lead by guest artists and choreographers, and developed together with the students, culminating in various professional experiences (apprenticeships and participations in creative projects), and personalised paths, according to the individual vocations.
In this connection between professional training and research, both students and artists/tutors are involved in the concepts of transmission and specialization. In particular, the research projects provide the opportunity to share an experience that will benefit both the artists, who have the opportunity to work with the students for their investigations, and the students who are able to experience first hand – through their bodies – the variety of poetics, investigations and work procedures of the various artists-leaders.
The three year programme is scheduled over 900/1000 yearly hours that include practical and theoretical sessions, research workshops, guided viewings of performances.
In 2018 the course will start in July and continue fairly intensively until December with a break during the month of August. Lessons will last 6/7 hours per day, mostly from Monday to Friday and with occasional Saturdays.
In the following two years (2019-2020) the activities will be scheduled between February and December. The programme may be subject to variations for the first year; the final timetable will be published after 20th May 2018.
The main residence for the project is in Rome. However, since year 1 and more frequently over the three years, there will be activities hosted by organizations and institutions in other parts of Italy and occasionally in other countries.
